Solid Bodies
I love solid body instruments. It’s a strange thing to say considering I’ve built my whole brand on semi-hollow, thin-line designs. But I’ll stay it again - I love solid body instruments.
All of my personal instruments are solid bodies, and most of the designs from other builders I admire are solid bodies. I think it just comes from being a bass player. When I was growing up there wasn’t much in the way of thin-line basses to lust over. Just big slabs of Sunburst Alder - P-Basses and Jazz Basses.
My initial foray into thin-line instruments was when I wanted to design something with a similar vibe to the Taylor T5 that I owned at the time, but with an offset body shape. That was actually the birth of J.Parsons guitars, with that guitar becoming the first Solomon.
10 years on and I’ve decided to offer up some simpler designs to come in at a more accessible price.
Two Guitars and a Bass. The main idea behind these is to lean into the simplicity of a solid-body, creating a streamlined building process so I can focus my attention on playability and finish.
Finishes will be simple oil over stain, highlighting the wood’s natural figuring and depth. Oils and stains are where I feel most at home, and the process is really enjoyable. The result is welcome relief from a shiny, textureless world. It feels like wood, not plastic, and it has the effect of bringing you closer with the instrument.
So, please welcome the lineup - Gideon, Silas and Gideon Bass! More details here
